Goodbye Tetsuo... by Kharizmo Goodbye Tetsuo... by Kharizmo
A stamp for one of the saddest endings in manga/anime history. I cried unbelievably hard during this scene in both the manga(which was even sadder) and this one on the movie. I wish they made a Yamagata death scene in the movie like they did in the manga cause it was an also VERY heart wrenching scene... Also some what beautiful.

If you're an AKIRA fan, add it!

I thought Yamagata's death was even more horrifying in the movie than in the manga simply because they didn't show it. Kai couldn't even bring himself to talk about it, so it must have been bad :omg:

I certainly did not cry at this scene, but I felt bad for Tetsuo.

Aw man! This ending gets me every time! I've seen the movie literally dozens of times, and even at the age of 33, being a semi-muscular grown man, I still feel all heavy-hearted when I see it.

The Streamline pictures crew did an awesome job in the 1980s dub. I think Cam Clarke's performance in this scene is brilliant.

You're so right... This movie is the only anime
movie that always brings tears to my eyes and
my heart flutter whenever I watch it...

Yeah. This movie gets me every time.

But the final volume of the manga makes me bawl like a little girl! It's such an emotional rollercoaster - and the themes and ideas are so easy to sympathise with.

I re-read Akira quite often. I can honestly say that by the end of the story, the absurdity of the real world seems so much clearer, and my friends and loved ones feel so much more important.

That's why it's my favourite book of all time.

I agree 100%.

When Kaneda and Kai are riding their bikes into
the destroyed Neo Tokyo and he looks to his sides
and sees the spirits of Yamagata and Tetsuo... I
can't help but have to take a moment and sob. :(

It's funny, but that part, the whole 'Get out of our Tokyo' coda - that's what settles me and helps me enjoy the book's ending on a positive note.

It's all that stuff where Kaneda communes with Tetsuo, and Kei is desperate to get him out of there - that stuff cuts me up. It's beautiful.

Otomo aways said that if there was any one central theme to Akira, it was one of friendship. That really comes through for me, every time.

Yeah, I always said I'd rather lose a
boyfriend or girlfriend that I knew for
a year then lose someone that's been with
me forever... Friendship is the most important
thing to me. Thats's why to the people I've
know my whole life and been there for me, I'd
fight to the bloody death saving them or even
die just trying to make them happy.

Maybe I wording this wrong but that's how I feel
about friendship. :) I know if may sound wrong,
but I always put my friends/family before me.

Now, see, this I why I LOVE the books! They inspire these sorts of thoughts and contemplations.

Akira is THE book that taught me that science fiction and comic books could carry literary weight, and tell real stories.

And I agree about Yamagata's death scene in the manga. In the movie they don't even show how he actually dies... wtf?! He's supposed to die right in front of Kaneda dammit! :tears:

I know! Everytime I read that part of the manga
my heart just goes crazy being all;

NO! Yama! Get away from there! PUT THE GUN DOWN!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! WHHHHYYYYY??? DX *epic tears*

I love Yamagata with all my heart. I wish he was
givin' the love he really deserves. ♥

I feel like Yamagata died too soon. Kaneda, Tetsuo, and even Kaisuke make it till the 6th manga, so how come Yamagata had to die in the first one?!

Although he did have an epic death scene. Well, more like, after-death scene. I like how Kaneda grabbed his gun and shot Tetsuo. As much as I love Tetsuo he totally deserved that one!

I know, that really pissed me off!

His death scene to me was beautiful in
a weird way... I dunno, just how they
portrayed it it really had deep feeling.

I think it was beautiful in a weird way too. But also in the movie, like how Kaneda sends Yamagata's bike to "his place" after his death. I realized what that meant after watching the movie about 5 fricken times. :slow: For the longest time I kept thinking "Why did Kaneda have to break Yamagata's bike?! Whaa??"
